Website and Bird Care Disclaimer
Last updated: 22 July 2026
1. General information only
Information provided by South Australian Bird Company through our website, product descriptions, blog articles, social media, newsletters, downloadable resources and other communications is general information only. It is not veterinary, medical, nutritional, behavioural, legal or permit advice and is not a substitute for advice tailored to your bird and circumstances.
Bird species and individual birds differ substantially. Before making a decision that may affect a bird’s health, diet, housing, behaviour, breeding, transport or welfare, obtain advice from an appropriately qualified avian veterinarian, animal health professional or relevant government authority.
2. Emergencies and illness
Do not rely on the website to diagnose or treat illness or injury. If a bird is unwell, injured, has ingested part of a product, is trapped or distressed, or shows a sudden behavioural change, remove the suspected hazard where safe to do so and seek prompt advice from a qualified avian veterinarian. Website messages are not monitored as an emergency service.
3. Toy and accessory safety
No bird toy, perch, hammock, feeder, cage accessory or enrichment item is indestructible or risk-free. Birds may chew, fray, dismantle, swallow or become entangled in materials in ways that cannot always be predicted. Suitability depends on the bird’s size, beak strength, behaviour, health, enclosure and level of supervision.
Customers and carers must:
select the correct product size and material for the individual bird;
install and secure products correctly and keep them clear of doors, moving parts and unsafe gaps;
supervise first use and continue appropriate supervision;
inspect products frequently for loose parts, sharp edges, frayed fibres, exposed wire, corrosion, contamination, entrapment hazards and excessive wear;
remove and replace a product immediately if it becomes damaged or unsafe; and
follow all instructions, labels, warnings and cleaning directions supplied with the product.
Chewing and gradual destruction are normal intended behaviours for many bird toys and do not, by themselves, indicate a defect.
4. Product sizing and recommendations
Any “small”, “medium”, “large”, species-based or similar recommendation is a general guide only. Birds of the same species can vary in strength and behaviour. If uncertain, obtain individual advice before purchase through /pages/contact or from a qualified avian professional.
5. Natural materials, colour and appearance
Natural wood, fibre, leather, shell and other natural components may vary in colour, texture, grain, shape and dimensions. Product images may also differ from actual colour because of lighting and screen settings. Assorted-colour products may be supplied in any available colour where the listing clearly says this.
6. Food, treats and supplements
Ingredient and feeding information must be read with the product label and any manufacturer directions. Check ingredients, batch information, best-before dates, storage requirements and suitability before feeding. Introduce dietary changes gradually where appropriate and seek avian veterinary advice about allergies, sensitivities, illness, medication, breeding birds or specialised diets.
We do not promise that a food, supplement or treat will prevent, diagnose, treat or cure a condition unless that claim is lawfully made and expressly stated by the manufacturer.
7. Cages, aviaries and stands
The customer is responsible for checking external dimensions, bar spacing, door and latch security, construction materials, placement and suitability before use. Assembly must follow the manufacturer’s instructions. A cage or stand must be positioned away from fumes, unsafe temperatures, predators, unstable surfaces and other known hazards. Product measurements are approximate unless stated otherwise.
8. Live birds
Information about a live bird reflects observations and available records at a particular time. Birds are living animals whose health, behaviour, tameness, vocalisation, breeding capacity and compatibility can change with age, environment, handling, diet, stress and care.
Unless expressly documented as part of the sale, we do not guarantee that a bird will talk, breed, bond with a person, remain tame or coexist safely with another bird or animal. This does not exclude any guarantee or remedy that applies under the Australian Consumer Law.
The buyer is responsible for providing lawful, safe and species-appropriate housing, nutrition, enrichment, veterinary care, socialisation, handling and transport, and for holding any permit required by law.
9. External information
We may link to third-party articles, videos, organisations or websites for convenience. We do not control independent third-party content and do not guarantee that it is complete, current or suitable for a particular bird. A link does not necessarily mean endorsement.
10. No exclusion of non-excludable rights
Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies any right, consumer guarantee or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified. Subject to those rights, use of general information and products remains subject to the customer’s reasonable care, compliance with instructions and individual assessment of suitability.
11. Contact
For general product or website questions, use our Contact page at /pages/contact. Urgent animal health concerns should be directed to a qualified avian veterinarian rather than the Contact page.
